Preface
Yukiko Koide
Yukiko Koide started her career as curator of the corporate gallery of Shiseido Company Ltd in Tokyo, and became independent in 1990.
She has worked for museums, galleries and companies, both in Japan and around the world, curating and coordinating exhibitions. She specializes in self-taught art, Outsider Art, Art Brut as well as vernacular design.
Raphaël Koenig
Raphael Koenig is currently a Leonard A. Lauder Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum’s Research Center for Modern Art (NYC). He holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University, where he defended his dissertation on the French and German avant-gardes’ reception of the “art of the insane” and “art brut” in 2018. He is a graduate of the Ecole normale supérieure in Paris, and holds an agrégation in Modern French Literature. He published art and cinema criticism in Artpress, Raw Vision, Art Papers, and La Nouvelle Quinzaine Littéraire.
