hans-jörg georgi
eternal life
The Goldstein Gallery in Frankfurt is presenting a solo show by Hans-Jörg Georgi, an artist to whom we dedicated a monographic exhibition accompanied by a catalog in 2022-2023.
For several decades, Georgi has been working at Atelier Goldstein, creating large multi-story airplanes for over 50 years.
These cardboard flying vessels are designed for a very specific moment: the day when Earth will no longer be habitable. They are envisioned as self-sustaining flying cities that will guide humanity toward a new, eternal future. His works craft a world beyond the present, where imagination and technology merge to form a vision of hope and salvation.
The exhibition showcases a wide range of sculptures and drawings created over the years.
Hans-Jörg Georgi joined the Goldstein workshop in 2001, bringing with him thousands of drawings depicting airplanes and children. It is in his workshop that he begins the creation of three-dimensional airplanes, which he manufactures using cut-up shoeboxes assembled with glue. A veritable fleet takes shape, resembling a Noah’s Ark, as it gathers airplanes of different models: bumpy and textured, they take on anthropomorphic appearances. Human, animal, and technological realms blend together in this collection. Georgi’s works are notably part of the Treger Saint Silvestre & Antoine de Galbert collections. In 2022, we dedicated his first gallery exhibition, entitled noah’s plane.
