Tour of “À l’intérieur” (Inside) with curator Marc Donnadieu
Friday, November 13, 6:30–9 pm
Presented at galerie christian berst art brut as part of the commemorations marking the bicentennial of photography and the centennial of Michel Foucault’s birth, the exhibition “À l’intérieur” brings together, for the first time, works of art brut created in states of confinement or cloistering with several exceptional groups of documentary, police and judicial photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, relating to identification, arrest and detention in prisons, jails, internment centers, boarding schools and hospitals. Photography, as much as architecture, reveals within them an identical process of incarceration, inside the frame of the image as inside the built frame.
Power(s) and counterpower(s) are thus mirrored and/or placed in dialogue at the heart of this project dedicated to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Michel Foucault, Chris Marker and Éric Rondepierre.
