Paul Duhem
& Michel Dave, Oscar Haus, Alexis Lippstreu
Paul Duhem (1919-1999) was honoured with a retrospective exhibition at the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne during his lifetime, whereas he had only begun drawing and painting seven years earlier, in 1990.
It was an astonishing trajectory for this natural son, rebellious and quarrelsome, rejected by his family and leaving school at 13 to become a farm boy. After the war, once he was diagnosed with a mental disability, he was first interned and then returned to work as a farm labourer. In 1978, Paul joined the Centre de la Pommeraie, where he soon devoted himself tirelessly to his work.
Having become the major figure of Belgian Art Brut, he has now joined the best collections in the world.
This exhibition presents his remarkable latest works and offers to discover the creations of three of his most talented companions.
