A collection of drawings by Madge Gill and a work by Luboš Plný were selected by the Chantal Crousel gallery for their group exhibition Égrégore.

With Marie Angeletti, Alighiero Boetti, Michael Buthe, Roberto Cuoghi, Madge Gill, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Mona Hatoum, Hassan Khan, Yuki Kimura, Liza Lacroix, Mathieu Malouf, Jean-Luc Moulène, Bruce Nauman, Luboš Plný, Sigmar Polke with Gerhard Richter, Man Ray, Clément Rodzielski, Willem de Rooij, Anri Sala, Heji Shin.

The exhibition Égrégore brings together works that explore the foundations of our perception and question the origins of our certainties. The concept of ‘égrégore’ refers to a collective entity, a group mind shaped by the projections, emotions and shared intentions of multiple individuals.
Through this lens, the exhibition examines the mechanisms that shape the collective imagination, fuel the creation of beliefs and encourage adherence to certain ideas. By engaging with illusions, deceptions and visual manipulations, Égrégore delves into the ambiguity of the notion of truth, revealing the shadowy spaces that lie between reality and illusion.

Luboš Plný

Luboš Plný whose international recognition was confirmed by his selection in the 57th Venice Biennale titled Viva Arte Viva (curated by Christine Macel) in 2017. As the first outsider artist acquired by the MNAM in 2013, he has enjoyed numerous institutional exhibitions in recent years. These include exhibitions at contemporary art museums in Kobe and Hiroshima, Japan, at the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles, at the Kunsthalle in Dresden, and in his hometown of Prague. In 2017, the Dox Art Center dedicated a solo exhibition to him, and in 2022, the Rudolfinum facilitated a dialogue between him and artists such as Louise Bourgeois and William Kentridge. In September 2023, we dedicated a solo show to him in our two spaces, a monography and a performance at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.

Madge Gill

The works of Madge Gill, a mediumistic artist from the mid-20th century, were collected by Jean Dubuffet. Guided by a spirit and in a trance state, Madge Gill drew in ink on surfaces ranging from small formats to rolls of over a hundred meters. Her entire body of work was only discovered after she died in 1961. Today considered a key figure in outsider art, her works can be found in major European and North American collections: American Folk Art Museum (New York, USA), the Museum of Everything (UK), Arnulf Rainer Collection (Austria), Damman (Switzerland), Treger Saint Silvestre (Portugal), etc. In 2024, her works will be presented at the Venice Biennale curated by Adriano Pedrosa.
