Ramon Losa has always been creative. Born in 1959 in Villapalacios, he moved to France with his parents at a very young age before returning to Spain during adolescence. Exceptionally gifted, he was admitted to the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, but his indocile temperament led to his expulsion after only three months.

From that point on, his psychological fragilities led to recurring institutionalizations, even as they intensified his creative potential.
His feverish experiments soothe the demons that assail him and reveal an artist of rare sincerity. Technical mastery never dissolves the cracks within. On the contrary, an enduring struggle against fragmentation emerges. In a sense freed from the temptation to conform, Ramon Losa tastes the intoxication of an uncompromising freedom — the freedom, above all, to tell his own story, to bear witness without disguise, moving seamlessly from highly accomplished painting to the most baroque collages and the most irreverent texts. At times, he even composes grimoires of asemic writing that seem to await a reader who might respond with empathy or delight.
Within this profusion, Ramon Losa masters ellipsis and juxtaposition to such a degree that it becomes difficult to determine whether he is revealing the inner movements of his emotions or offering us a distanced and gently ironic narrative of our time. Trivial icons of popular culture, alongside pointed references to academic art, coexist with contemporary dramas and the triumph of modernity in a swirling continuum that recalls the hysteria of images circulating across our “networks.” Yet here and there, an autobiographical citation — much like the Renaissance masters, precursors of the “selfie” — reminds us how deeply the artist remains entangled in this spectacle.
Quite the contrary: Ramon Losa both reveals and liberates himself through his marvelous proliferations.

Moving between Spain and France, where he spent his childhood, Ramón Losa returned to his native country as a teenager and failed to attend the University of Madrid’s School of Fine Arts. During the period of military service, his psychological problems intensified and he was intermittently hospitalised. What Losa shows, regardless of the medium used (drawing, collage, etc.), is an almost electric way of assembling and disassembling motifs, seen as so many magnetised pieces of the world. The impression here is that uniting and separating, gluing and cutting, tracing and erasing merge into a single gesture - a single space. His recently discovered work is already part of important[…]
